Gollum is not that scary. In a way, he looks more like someone to be pitied. The movie even hinted on Gollum's good nature. But there's his other side, the one corrupted by the ring that makes him evil and devious. Gollums bewildering persona is captured perfectly in this metal figure. You can never tell if he's scary ugly, or pityingly ugly.
